Studying the wisdom texts of yoga and learning the many different lineages of teachers is essential to my practice. Yoga’s origin is in India and instead of erasing its rich cultural context I seek to incorporate as much of it as I can into what I teach and how I live. Yoga was a liberation practice long before it was a movement practice. I honor that tradition and keep that lineage moving forward by actively working towards collective freedom.

I learn and teach yoga on the unceded ancestral lands of the Coast Salish people. Very specifically I live near present day lake Washington. The Duwamish people living in villages along the shores of Lake Washington were collectively known as hah-choo-AHBSH, that is, people of HAH-choo meaning 'a large lake'. I acknowledge that I occupy this land not to alleviate my accountability and responsibility to indigenous people but to bring us into deeper relationship with the land, indigenous traditions and what we can learn from them to rebuild the world we live in.
